10 TwitterTips
Ten Tips for making it happen as a Social Media startup, acted out by Biz Stone and Twitter.
There are some very simple things that have to happen to create a successful Social Media application that will conquer the world. As a recent employee of Naspers’ 24.com, I watched our company try for years, with varying degrees of success, to replicate the garage startup structure you need to come up with crazy ideas that miraculously work. But the very idea of creating a ‘structure’ mitigates your success – you need outsiders to make crazy things work. And I don’t mean outsiders as in that awful cliche, think outside the box. These people don’t even see a box, and if they did, they’d probably hide in it to avoid the daylight. No, by outsider, I mean someone who isn’t of this world, in many ways. Either social misfits, errant geniuses, or alien cuckoos.
You can read all about social media startup tips on blogs like alistairfairweather.com or mashable.com, but I thought it’d be fun to illustrate my own version with pictures of my recent visit to Twitter’s nest in San Francisco, where founder Biz Stone gave us a fascinating talk on how Twitter got started.
