Beirut Pics
Last night I met Peter, a nice American guy who has just been posted to Beirut by the US State Dept. It’s not easy being posted to a place where they don’t exactly love the USA, so here are some pictures of my trip to Beirut to show him the good side of where he’s going. Good luck, Peter.
The food in Lebanon is startlingly good. Try the Fattoush, a salad of toasted pita bread, cucumbers, tomatoes, chickweed, and mint, the Baba ghanouj (which you won’t need described), and the Fuul, slow cooked mash of brown beans and red lentils dressed with lemon olive oil and cumin. Worth a little mortal fear, any day.

absolutely. the pastries alone are worth a hoedown with hezbollah. but the mixed grills, well, oy.
